This inaugural harvest lunch, plated in the paddock celebrates the agricultural productivity of the harvest of a winter crop, with real farmers and harvest hosts who can provide insights into what it takes to grow food and fibre, while enjoying a local menu in a picturesque paddock setting, surrounded by a wheat crop that is almost ready to be harvested. The relaxed lunch in the paddock will include a brief overview from a local grower about the season, and an activity for children.

Coonamble boasts prime agricultural land in north west NSW and regularly leads the grain growing regionals of the state in the production of crops such as wheat and barley. The concept of this event was created to recognise the major economic contributor of the local Coonamble region, agriculture. Currently there is no social or cultural celebration of major milestones or seasons in the agricultural calendar, despite the largest majority of the local population working in the sector and relying financially on the sector. By October, winter crops will be mature and will have almost completely turned from a lush green to a golden colour, indicating that they are ripe and ready to harvest, providing the most picturesque setting.
