Strength of Stories Tour 2024

Strength of Stories Tour 2024

Sun 24 Mar 2024, 5:00 AM - 7:30 AM

WHEN: Sunday 24 March 2024

WHERE: The Plaza Theatre, Coonamble

With a hunger for the red dirt of her family and songwriting roots, Nerida is heading west!  She's a story-teller and connector, and her concerts create a space for reflection, humour and fun.  Nerida's concerts are not a get-up-and-dance kind of vibe (although you might find yourself singing along, if you like that sort of thing!) It's more like an invitation to slow down, to breathe deeply, and to see afresh the beauty and resilience of our land and the lives lived on it. Her songs celebrate life in the bush, and the strength and resilience of rural communities and people. So of course, there will also be time and space to catch up with friends over some food and drink in between Nerida's sets. Please BYO something to drink, and a basket supper. A cuppa will be provided.

This concert will be opened by locals, David Jones and his son Travis. A proportion of each ticket sale will be donated to the renovation of The Plaza, which we're SO EXCITED to be opening up again for the community to enjoy. There's also opportunity to donate further to The Plaza here on this site, or on the night.

Originally from Sydney, Nerida fled to Bourke at the age of 17 for a couple of years in the bush; then after four years of uni, she took off from the city again to start teaching out in Broken Hill. Although she has loved living in the beautiful historic small town of Canowindra for the last 22 years; it's the red dirt and big skies of western NSW (and outback Australia) that she loves the most, so she decided it was time for a tour to get her feet onto that country again.

Described as “a central west Mary Black”, Nerida loves performing live, but has also greatly enjoyed the chance to find a much larger audience via zoom & Youtube since 2020. In 2021, her 5th album, Woven, was released - a collection of Australian-based story songs. She has performed throughout the central west, featuring in Arts Outwest's covid album in 2021 and their artist recovery concerts in 2022. She has played in folk clubs and festivals in NSW and Victoria, and enjoyed her first UK tour in 2023.

If you need more info, please call 0429 048 603.  This concert is thanks to the strong support of Outback Arts, and the RADO Jamie-Lea Trindall. What a legend!
