Coonamble LALC represents the local Aboriginal Community, which is the traditional country of the Kamilaroi and Weilwan peoples, and consists of 6 key family groups. Anecdotally, the proportion of Aboriginal people to non-Aboriginal people within Coonamble is increasing as a growing number of non-Aboriginal people leave the community, whilst Aboriginal people remain.

Coonamble LALC has identified the need for members to become more interested and proactive in Aboriginal-related needs and issues, and more supportive and engaged in Council services and activities.

Coonamble LALC is committed to improving the services, support and representation it currently provides to its members and the local Aboriginal Community.

The main services it currently provides to Coonamble LALC members and the local Aboriginal Community include:

• Provision of resources to Members
• Occasional use of office phones in emergency situations,
• Funeral fund assistance
• Rental Housing (Social Housing Scheme)
• Provision of rental accommodation
• Property management and maintenance
• Rental collection and client liaison
• Representation of the Aboriginal Community at
• Regional Working Parties
• Local Service and Community Organisations
• Use of Office Meeting Space
• Regional Working Party meetings
• Government agency meetings
