Country Press NSW is seeking an organised self-starter to support the Council grow the organisation and support its membership as it embarks on a new era of regional publishing.


About Us

The Country Press NSW is the oldest newspaper association in Australia, founded in 1900.

Our purpose is to support our members by protecting and promoting the interests, rights, privileges and influence of the press, and, in particular, of regional and local newspapers.

We currently have 35 financial members across the breadth of New South Wales and are welcoming new members.

We are democratic organisation with a long heritage and we operate in a highly competitive and fast-changing environment. 

The Role

You will become our Admin and Advocacy Coordinator, a role which requires high level communication, administrative and promotional skills and a capacity to work unsupervised. The position works under the direction of the President and in co-operation with administration team at Victorian Country Press Association, who currently handle the CP NSW financial affairs. You will support the Council, sub-committees and membership of the Country Press NSW Inc.


This position consists of four primary elements: 

  1. Providing assistance with general administration including organising meetings; taking and distributing minutes of meetings; preparing correspondence; assist in managing projects.
  2. Driving membership growth and networking including maintaining a detailed member database; establishing an online platform/forum for member interaction; facilitating member recruitment; assisting the President to organise Council meetings, member surveys, annual conference.
  3. Marketing the organisation to boost support for member publications from audiences, advertisers and government.
  4. Actively support the Council in advocating to state and national agencies - government and non-government.

You will be the primary point of contact for enquiries, member support requests and campaign delivery.


You will be expected to:

1. Build relationships and partner with stakeholders to support members and grow the organisation.

2. Use your creative and/or project management skills to design and deliver promotional

campaigns and profile-building packages using a multiple media platforms.

3. Provide administrative support to the President and Council, in liaison with the secretariat of Victorian Country Press.

4. Bring a can-do attitude to be part of a small team focused on building a sustainable future for regional publishing and journalism.

5. Establish relationships and liaise with MPs, ministers and senior government employees, and representatives of other non-government agencies.


Skills, Attitudes & Aptitudes:

1. Digitally savvy with experience in administration and/or marketing in NGO, corporate or government environment.

2. Outgoing and friendly customer service and support with experience in B2B relationship-building.

3. Keen attention to detail and a commitment to quality.

4. Good time-management with a demonstrated ability to work unsupervised and deliver results to an agreed timeframe.

5. Experience with updating or maintaining websites and strategically managing social media sites

will be an advantage.

6. Familiarity with the principles of good corporate governance, and an understanding of the roles of all levels of government in relation to the media industry.

7. Ability to maintain confidentiality and encourage collaboration among a diverse membership.

8. Willingness and capacity to advocate on behalf of members.

 

Education, Qualifications & Experience:

Minimum Higher School Certificate or equivalent.

Post-school qualifications in marketing, media or business management/corporate governance highly desirable.

Experience in organisation or business administration or support; designing and managing marketing activities; government/corporate communications.



What we offer

12 month Contract with potential for extension

• The position will be contracted with hours and rates of pay to be negotiated with the preferred candidate.

• Will consider candidates working remotely within New South Wales. State-based travel will be required.

• Hours of work are generally between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday but some flexibility may be required for meetings.
