A man has been charged after allegedly firing towards police officers at Binnaway after an 11 hour stand-off with police.
About 8:40 am on Wednesday 2 November, officers attended a home on Railway Street, Binnaway to speak to the occupant.
Police will allege when they attempted to speak to the man, he refused to leave the home, threatening officers.
A perimeter was established around the premises by local police and an operation commenced with the assistance of specialist tactical officers and negotiators.
Almost 12 hours later, with officers still in place, the 58-year-old man allegedly discharged a firearm towards police, hitting a police shield.
He was arrested a short time later.
A crime scene was established at the location and, following a search of the premises, police seized various items including firearms and ammunition. All items will undergo forensic examination.
The man was taken to Dubbo Police Station and charges with 11 offences:
- use carriage service to threaten serious harm,
- stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm,
- use etc offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention etc,
- discharge firearm etc with intent to resist arrest,
- fire firearm manner likely injure persons/property,
- use unauthorised prohibited firearm,
- possess unauthorised prohibited firearm,
- possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority, and
- intimidate police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm.
The man was refused bail and appeared at Dubbo Local Court on Thursday, 3 November.
