Emergency crews attended an irrigation farm north of Walgett yesterday afternoon, where a man became trapped in a cotton harvester.

The incident occurred around 12:30 yesterday afternoon 10 kilometres north of Walgett, when the 19-year-old fell into the harvester and became heavily pinned by the legs.

Fire and Rescue NSW, paramedics, police and the SES attended the site, as well as an ambulance helicopter.

Firefighters and paramedics attempted to relieve the pressure on the injured 19-year-old’s thighs, and carefully extricated him from the heavy machinery.

Walgett’s Fire and Rescue NSW Acting Captain Isobel Whiteman said the man was trapped for around two hours before he was freed by emergency services.

“When he was released he was doing okay. He was conscious and talking,” Ms Whiteman said.

The man was airlifted to hospital yesterday afternoon.
