“Absolute Wow”: $500 million Green Energy project coming to Narromine Image: Sydney Morning Herald.

Narromine Mayor Craig Davies has described a renewable energy and circular chemicals project to be built on the outskirts of Narromine as a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity with no downside to it”.

Asia Pacific Waste Solutions (APWS) is going to establish a Renewable Energy and Circular Chemicals facility in the Narromine Local Government Area (LGA) located around nine kilometres the main Narromine township.

“What this project does is turn waste into either green energy or chemicals” Mayor Davies told the Western Plains App.

“The green chemicals that can then be turned into fertiliser, something there has been a statewide shortage of”.

Mayor Davies said he is highly excited might eventually be the largest baseload green energy plant in Australia.

“At the moment its a $500 million project but it can eventually be a $1.8 billion project.”

He said it has the potential to generate 2.44 gigawatts of power - 20% of the NSW power grid.

Interconnected with the ARTC Inland Rail, the Narwonah Renewable Energy and Circular Chemicals Project would further develop and enable a Circular Economy in regional Australia at a time when soft plastics waste, energy security, and waste management are key issues at the forefront of community and industry concerns.

The project is slated to offer substantial local and regional benefits to local employment, generating 250 direct jobs during the construction phase, 150 direct jobs during its operation stage, and 200 indirect jobs in the local regional supply chain.

APWS Director, Tracy Dignum, indicated that they have begun engaging with the local community to gauge public support for the Narwonah Renewable Energy and Circular Chemicals Project.

“These sessions are a chance to ask questions about the Narwonah Renewable Energy and Circular Chemicals Project, provide feedback and share your local knowledge with the project team" Ms Dignum said.

APWS will be holding community engagement sessions at the Narromine United Services Memorial Club on 28 and 29 November 2023, 7:00pm – 9:00pm
