Another Western Plains race meeting has bitten the dust - or mud.

Racing NSW stewards have advised "The Collarenebri race meeting scheduled for Saturday (13 September) has been abandoned.

"Following an inspection the course was deemed unsuitable for racing following 20 millimetres of rainfall on Wednesday.’’

The organising committee are on board with the cancellation and say they have a Plan B in place.

Race Club Secretary Jessica Sultyer says the recent rain forced the cancellation.

’’It was a joint decision with Stewards but we are disappointed," she said.

Meetings have been abandoned at Louth and Trangie of late and a petition by MP Roy Butler is being sent to Racing New South Wales but in this case Jessica says the safety of jockeys of horses was paramount.

Work already done - time for fun

‘’Whilst mother nature hasn’t been kind to us the past few years the committee refuses to let it dampen community spirit.’’

A 'phantom race day' will still be held with a courtesy bus available from 1pm to 9pm she said.

''Lions will hold a barbecue and Fashions on The Fields, Hostess Luncheon, market stalls jumping castles for the little ones.

"The bar will open to 8.30pm with live music from Rock City Rock Duo … let's have fun,'' she said.
