“Australia- we need your help.” - Debutante Dresses and Suits Wanted

That is the cry coming from group 'Dresses for the Drought Australia' as they send out a plea for help for the young debutantes of Walgett in search of dresses and suits for their upcoming Debutante Ball.

The small town of Walgett, population 2267, is hosting a ball in less than a month and the organisers have reached out to Dresses for the Drought to help.

“We received a request from community health leaders in Walgett for assistance in dressing some of the young ladies for their upcoming Debutante Ball next month,” according to Anita Guyett of Dresses for the Drought.

Since the creation of dresses for the drought in 2018, we have been able to gift over 5000 dresses and 2700 suits to young formal goers or debutantes. As soon as we received the call out from Walgett, we jumped straight on board.”

Anita and Tashoni, founders of Dresses for the Drought, grew up on acreage in country Queensland and although they both now live in Melbourne and Brisbane, have never forgotten their roots nor the unique struggles that some families have living on the land.

“We provide hope to formal goer or debutantes who may not have been able to afford to go, by removing the barrier of the cost of the garment. We gift all of the dresses and suits for free and they are always exceptional quality, and new designs, said Ms Guyett.

“We have even had a wedding shop in Melbourne jump on board, and are gifting new and sample gowns, our goal is to make it super special for the town of Walgett, and for them to remember that Australia cares and are happy to help,” she said.

“We just simply facilitate the ability for people all across Australia to help. We always ask that those gifting the dresses or suits, provide a special handwritten note, often telling of the previous adventure the dress or suit went on, and forwarding well wishes to the recipients.”

“The recipients tell us that this is the most special part of the gift, and often have kept those letters for years afterwards, as a memory of the unique gift a stranger passed to them,” she said. “If you would like to donate, we would need you to send the garment off in the post this week or early next week.”

“Thank you for helping us out Australia, we cannot wait to share photos of the Walgett Debutante Ball with you all.”
