After an unexpected water emergency in Baradine on Friday November 24th, Baradine residents were forced to follow level 6 water restrictions and placed on a Boil Water Alert, until the issue was resolved.

The placement of restrictions was a result of a series of burst water mains, resulting in a large loss of water. The treatment plant was unable to cope with the water quality coming out of the water treatment plant not meeting the required standards.

Council did not detect any contamination within the water network during this time, however as a precautionary measure a boil water alert was implemented.

“Council would like to thank the residents in Baradine for cooperating so quickly at such short notice allowing the Warrumbungle Water team to work on resolving the issue,” Warrumbungle Mayor, Ambrose Doolan said.

The Boil Water Alert has now been lifted in Baradine and residents have returned to Level 1 Water Restrictions from 30 November.

“Following discussions between Council, NSW Department of Planning and Environment (DPE) and NSW Health, we can now advise that the Boil Water Alert has been lifted for Baradine,” Mr Doolan said.

“Two sets of water samples were collected earlier this week and returned clear results. The water treatment plant is operating normally and meeting all required parameters to ensure safe drinking water is being delivered to the community of Baradine.”

With the water supply scheme in Baradine operating normally, Baradine will now return to Level 1 Water Restrictions which have a target water consumption of 260 litres per person, per day. Full details of the parameters of water restrictions can be found on the council's website.
