There was nothing boring about Nyngan last weekend as a small group of community minded fundraisers held a unique event on Saturday at Nyngan Racecourse titled ‘Bogan Big Boar Bonanza’ raising over $8000.00 for the local community.
A pig hunting competition, teams with a group of 5 members, were given two days to see who could come up with the biggest pig.
Run under strict legal hunting rules, with Rural Crime Prevention team members in attendance, all competitors were given regulations that had to be adhered to under humane guidelines.
“The Big Boar Bonanza was the brilliant idea of a group of mates sitting around having a beer together,” according to organiser Robert Pack.
The idea was to raise money doing something that we love, for Can Assist and young local cancer sufferer, Cooper Wynne as well as other families struggling with Cancer,” said Mr. Pack.
“It was run by myself and my wife Aimee Pack, Amy Maresch and Duanne Hartas, and around 500 people came though the gate.”

Seventy five teams registered for the event, vying for the top title and 35 teams attended with a catch.
With prizes for Biggest of the Comp, Biggest Boar, Biggest Sow, Heaviest load, longest hook, biggest fox, Biggest Hare, Biggest Cat, Longest Pig, Mystery Weight, Best Pig Rig, prizes were keenly sought after and with over $25000 in prizes and donations, plenty of the hunters went home with the goods.
Live Music was played throughout the day with local DJ Liz O’Neill and Leon from the Narrabri group – The 3-legged Pig Dog Band kept feet tapping and dancers dancing.

With a line-up of family activities, such as Best Hog squealer, Russell Coight Dance off, Kids sack race, Iron Kid, Iron Woman and Iron Man as well as tug of war and a chin up competition, the kids were kept busy throughout the day.
A Mechanical Bull proved to be a highlight and carried prizemoney of $1200.00.

Local Dallas Mazoudier won the kids section, while Eliza won the ladies and Jackson Tiffen of Bourke took out the men’s after a three-way tie showdown involving some backwards riding. Tiffen also took out the chin comp with thirty chin ups.
Over 1000 pigs were caught for the weekend with team ‘Smashing Massive Hogs’ scoring the biggest pig weighing in at 103 kilograms.

“We would like to give a huge thank you to all involved in making the day a great success,” said Mr. Pack.
“Just being able to give back to the Nyngan community is an honour and we are so proud and humbled by everyone’s support and donations."
“It was an absolutely amazing effort, and we are already looking forward to next years event," he said.
