Brewarrina to get Community Hub

The Brewarrina Local Aboriginal Land Council (LALC) has recently received a substantial grant from Aboriginal Affairs Community & Places grant.

With this they are repurposing the plot of land that is located next their office, this was the sight of the old Land Council Office.

The new space will be a Community Hub, with a veggie garden, seating area, amphitheatre and an enclosed BBQ for the community and organisations to use when they need.

“The community will benefit with the LALC establishing a valuable purpose for an unused space. The LALC will soon become a pleasant place to relax and enjoy your lunch, a gathering place for community, agencies or special events, a host for healthy food promotions, a base for health and fitness activities, a host of regular market days and a place for performance artists to practice their craft," said CEO John Reidy.

The plot has been cleared and is ready for landscapers to come in and start.

The Community Hub should be finished by the end of the year and once finished the Brewarrina LALC will have an open day to officially open the space.

“When the garden becomes established the LALC plans on hosting community cooking sessions to promote the growing and cooking of healthy foods. We are also acquiring gazebos allowing us to host regular market days so community can sell their arts, crafts, and foods," says Mr Reidy
