Investigations continue into the reasons a disused historic building collapsed yesterday (Saturday November 15) in Cobar's historic main street.

Just after 11.30am yesterday the facade above the awning and the shop's verandah gave way spreading debris across the road and along the footpath in Marshall Street.

Emergency Services attended the scene including local police, state emergency services and fire brigade.

Debris from the storefront ended up in the tray of a utility parked in the street, with some damage to the vehicle.

Authorities blocked off the street for some time Saturday while they removed bricks, timber and other material from the site.

There were reports of a pedestrian being nearby at the time but avoiding injury.

The building was a local institution in the town, once home to a butchery and a sewing shop.

Investigations and assessments of the issue may continue for some time.

State MP Roy Butler said he was made aware of the incident and was pleased no one was hurt.

Community members responded on social media said they were devastated for Cobar following the tragedy with the deaths of two people in the Polymetals underground collapse on October 28.

Saying it was fortunate there were no injuries because the community had been through so much of late.
