Business gives back at ChristmasMatt Edwards was presented with the donation for the Baradine Central School by Alexander Deans

Christmas is the season for giving and that it just what a Baradine business has done.

The Thirsty Farmer pub has surprised the town’s two local schools by donating $1,000 to each of them. The generous amounts were presented to Baradine Central School and St John’s School on Thursday, 14 December.

“The money is from the proceeds of raffles we have held each week over the past twelve months,” explained the pub’s co-owner, Alexander Deans.

“The raffles were held specifically for an end-of-year donation and we decided that, as we already give to local sporting clubs, the schools could also do with a helping hand.”

Principal of Baradine Central School, Matt Edwards said he was delighted to receive the donation.

“This is huge for us and it will go a long way towards helping out with resources,” said Matt. “We have an expansive ag program and coming into a drought, this could help in that area.

“It is very thoughtful of the Thirsty Farmer and very much appreciated by the school.”

Margaret McKinnon, principal of St John’s Catholic school said it was a great surprise to receive the contribution.

“We are absolutely thrilled with this generous donation,” she said. “We have a whole school excursion to Sydney next year and this money will be of great assistance.

“It will give a big boost to the whole trip and I am sure the students and parents will be delighted.

“A big thank you to the community for their support and the Thirsty Farmer.”
