Cases hold steady across the westThe COVID tally in western plains towns is rising - but not too fast

Today's reported COVID case numbers show the region's numbers holding steady with 153 new cases across the Western NSW Local Health District (LHD) up to 8pm last night Saturday 1 January 2022, with four people in hospital and one now in intensive care. 

 

In the Western Plains shires, Walgett Shire has five new cases (including 1 with a Lightning Ridge address), Bourke and Narromine have 4 new cases, Warrumbungle shire has 3 (including 1 in Coonabarabran), Brewarrina, Gilgandra and Lachlan shires have 2 each, and Warren shire has 1 new case. 

 

Cobar, Coonamble and Bogan shires recorded no new cases in the 24 hour period. 

 

Dubbo Regional Council again topped the tally with 53 cases (including 1 with a Wellington address), Orange had 35 and Bathurst and Mid-Western 9 cases each. Other cases were recorded in Blayney, Cabonne, Cowra, Forbes, Oberon, Parkes and Weddin shires. 

 

For those who'd like to keep a track of infections since restrictions were lifted on 15 December, here's our calculations of total positive cases in shires across the Western Plains area including figures on 15 December and 1 January (reported today 2 January):

Walgett – 35 

Cobar – 22 

Narromine – 22 

Warren - 21 

Coonamble – 20 

Bogan – 16 

Bourke – 12 

Brewarrina – 11 

Gilgandra – 9 

Lachlan - 8
