A man has escaped serious injury following a cattle truck rollover on the Castlereagh Highway between Walgett and Lightning Ridge on Monday.

Emergency services were called to the scene at about 35 kilometres from the Ridge at around 9:10pm on 27 October.

They arrived to find the truck flipped on its side, killing several cows.

A police spokesperson said others were injured and escaped.

"The driver – a 40-year-old man – freed himself," the police spokesperson said.

The NSW Ambulance media unit said the man declined a paramedic assessment and displayed no obvious injuries.

Police said he was issued a Traffic Infringement Notice for negligent driving.
