Christmas is big in BaradineBringing the festive spirit to Bugaldie, Santa and Mrs Claus dwarf local hay bale artist, Jess Taylor and her daughter Heidi.

It’s looking a lot like Christmas in and around Baradine.

The town is switching on to the joy and magic of Christmas with the return of its festive lights’ competition and there is a new Christmas-themed hay bale on display at Bugaldie.

Baradine residents and businesses are being encouraged to get into the merry spirit of the season by switching on their festive decorations to enter the Christmas Lights competition.

Competition sponsors, the Baradine & District Progress Association says that the competition is all about sharing the magic of the season around the community.

“This annual event is always a huge success with residents displaying their illuminating skills with some impressive decorated houses,” said association president, Ted Hayman.

“There is nothing merrier than getting involved; the event is a highlight on the local calendar.”

There are prizes to be won in four categories; best lights, best Christmas spirit, best religious theme and best business lights and everyone can vote in the people’s choice category.

This year the organisation has brought the spirit of Christmas into the town centre by adding sparkle to Wellington Street and the memorial hall.

“A great team of volunteers have donated their time to hang decorations in the trees up the centre of Wellington Street and festooning the front of our iconic memorial hall with lights,” added Mr Hayman.

“We are really getting into the holiday spirit; its all about spreading Christmas cheer.”

Mr. Hayman’s advice to residents is to switch on lights after dark on Monday, 18 December to make sure they are seen by the judges.
