On the weekend of the 25-26 February, almost 100 former drivers and pit crews, of the Copper City Speedway, aka the Cobar Auto Club, got together for a reunion.

People travelled from all Australia to attend, including from Cairns, Toowoomba, Goulburn, Bribie Island, Parkes, Orange, Narromine, Dubbo, Lithgow, and Broken Hill.

Whilst the Cobar Auto Club is still in operation, these days only motorbikes race, cars stopped racing in around 1995.

"It was really big between the 1970's to about the early 1990's, with drivers coming from Orange, Dubbo, Narromine, Broken Hill and Gilgandra" to compete, Marie Lawrence, the reunion organiser, told the Western Plains App.

The Reunion dinner was held at the Cobar Bowling and Golf Club on Saturday 25 February.

There were over 800 photos, and video footage shown on the night, plus two cars were lovingly restored, for display, by former driver Trevor Palmer and Ben Griffiths.

Ms Lawrence said the reunion was thought up by two of the former drivers over a few drinks, who then "approached me and I got the ball rolling so to speak, then I asked a few other people to help, John De Bruin, Julie Sloan, Neisha Lehmann, Lynton Dennis, and Jade Buckman.

"It was not a special year it was just everyone was getting older and were living all over the country so what better way to get everyone together".

Former driver, Troy Cook, who travelled from Goulburn, was asked to emcee the night. Including doing some interviews with former committee members and drivers. Jade Buckman designed some shirts for the reunion and brought his car simulator to see if they still had it.

On Sunday 26 February, a breakfast BBQ was cooked by local car enthusiast club, the Dust Bowl Fuel Burners, at Drummond Park, before everyone went home. "All the feedback we received, was that everybody had an awesome time just reminiscing about the good old days", Marie Lawrence told the Western Plains App.
