Cobar's biggest day at the racesThe biggest turnout in recent memory has left the Cobar Miners Race Club more than pleased with their latest race meeting.

Cobar's racing scene is back on on track drawing the biggest crowd senior members of the race club committee can recall.

Saturday 28 May provided great weather for a race meet with a top of 19 degrees and particle clouds.

With 55 horses running in the 6 race program, Cobar Miners Race Club were thrilled with the turnout as Club President, Jarrod Marsden wrote on social media "undoubtedly the best Cobar races ever."

"It's the biggest crowd anyone can remember. The biggest race fields anyone can remember."

The Cobar Miners Race Club life member, Glynis Prisk (82), has been involved in the race club for most of her adult life and has said it was the most successful day she can ever recall.

Mr Marsden says the day exceeded expectations, with a betting turnover up $30,000 on last year.

Mr Marsden added "We are so blessed to have a number of very loyal and generous sponsors, without whom we would not be able to function. WesTrac are our major sponsors and have been for 13 years now."

The hard work put in by the small race committee saw the day kick off with gates opening at 11am, for the first race to start at 1pm.

An estimated 2200 people entered the gates to gallop around the betting ring, catch up over drinks, or to strut their stuff in fashions on the fields.

This year's fashions on the fields were hot to trot with the Best Dressed Young Lady (18-35 years) declaring Janette Bishop as the winner, with Bonnie Martin runner-up.

Jamie Bennett took the win in the Best Millinery category. Trish Wendland (Dubbo) won the Best Dressed Lady (40 years and over), with local Jacinta Cain as runner-up.

In the Best Dressed Child category (0-12 years) Aubree Everingham took the win, with Ryder Anderson as runner-up.

Dubbo trainer, Connie Greig, won her 4th consecutive Cobar cup, and jockey Clayton Gallagher rode three winners on the day to be the most successful jockey.
