Entertainers sound checking, face painters setting up, bagpipe players fine-tuning, performers warming up, stall holders a-plenty and the smell of fresh coffee and food wafted through the air at the opening of the highly anticipated Bloomfest 2025 in Coonabarabran yesterday (Saturday 20 September).
What started off as a wet and windy day, turned into a beautiful spring afternoon and, as anticipated, a chilly evening.
With portable gas heaters placed around the entertaining area there was ample warmth for those that sought it.
The organisers at Warrumbungles Shire Council, had listened to feedback from the 2024 event and had more food options, installed portable loos and more interactive activities for both young and old.
“Council has secured funding for three years for this event from NSW Government, with a focus on vibrant streets and bringing community together," Ngaire Stevens, Manager Children and Community Services said.
"The concept is we close a street and create a safe place for the community to gather.
“There is a big focus on supporting local food, stall holders, businesses and local entertainers.”
“The feedback has been great, I feel it went really well with possibly more in attendance than last year."

She says Warrumbungle Shire is keen for feedback, so they can strive to make the event even more enjoyable event iin the coming years.
“It has been a fabulous event, seeing people out and enjoying themselves, the smiling and happy faces of the children,” Elise of Canopus Farm said.
“We need more community events like this.
"Council have done an awesome job in organising this event and I look forward to attending next year."
Throughout the event, attendees enjoyed interactive games and activities with their children, with coloured chalk available for a concrete art experience, bubble workshop and face painting.
A spectacular light projection show and a plethora of various live and interactive entertainment, culminated with a performance by Where’s Dave.
“It’s always great to get out and meet the locals, the atmosphere is relaxed and vibrant," said Peter, roadie for Matching, Hatching and Dispatching.
"I am grateful there isn’t a fee for stall holders, which is great for small businesses and an incentive to participate next year.”
Other stallholders were also effusive in their praise.
“I love coming to events like this and seeing how our community supports them,"said Alana.
"It makes me realise how lucky we are to live in such a small, close knit, but supportive community."
