Condo wins NSW Keep Australia Beautiful Award The Condobolin CRC gives residents a free and convenient way to safely dispose of recyclables that cannot go into kerbside bins.

The Recycling and Waste Transfer Station at Condobolin is now an award winner!

A Lachlan Shire Council environmental initiative was justly rewarded at the Beautiful NSW Tidy Towns Awards held in Scone on Saturday November 4.

Running nationally since 1990, the Tidy Towns awards encompasses projects and initiatives with a focus on environmental sustainability and resource management reflecting a growing awareness of the importance of community-led environmental action.

The awards recognise the hard work undertaken by regional towns, councils, schools, individuals and groups, encouraging the sharing of best practices and ideas to enhance our rural towns.

Categories are judged according to population; Population category A: up to 1,500, Population category B: 1,501 - 5,000, Population category C: 5,001 - 12,000, Population category D: 12,001 -23,000 and Population category E: > 23,000.

While Bathurst was the overall winner for NSW this year, Lachlan Shire Council got a mention in the Highly Commended awards in the Resource Recovery & Waste Minimisation (Population Category B)

In February 2023 the services available at the Transfer Station were enhanced by the opening of the Condobolin Community Recycling Centre (CRC). The Condobolin CRC was the 101st CRC to open in New South Wales.

The Condobolin CRC gives residents a free and convenient way to safely dispose of recyclables that cannot go into kerbside bins, such as batteries, paints, oil, gas bottles, fluoro lights, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers and aerosols. These are in household quantities of 20 kilograms or 20 litres.

Council’s Environment and Waste Coordinator, Rowan Bentick, was delighted that Lachlan Shire Council was the recipient of the award. “I am very happy that the improvements at our Recycling and Waste Transfer Station in Condobolin have received recognition from Keep Australia Beautiful NSW. I encourage everyone to use the Community Recycling Centre which is a free drop-off solution to dispose of challenging waste streams and divert these products from landfill,” Mr Bentick said

Lachlan Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Paul Phillips also celebrated the success. “It is wonderful to see Council’s efforts in the war against waste recognised by this prestigious award” he said.

The Condobolin CRC is open from 10am – 4pm daily except on Mondays and Thursdays.
