Coonamble township records first official COVID caseThe township of Coonamble has recorded its first official case of COVID-19 which will be included in tomorrow's case numbers.

After several months of COVID circulating regional NSW, the Coonamble township has identified its first official case in the local community.

According to a spokesperson from the Western NSW Local Health District (WNSWLHD), the Coonamble case was reported after 8pm last night and will therefore be included in tomorrow's (Saturday 27 November) numbers. It is yet to be revealed if the positive case was infectious in the community.

It is the first positive case officially confirmed for the town, although there have previously been cases identified in the nearby town of Gulargambone which is from the same shire.

The revelation comes following reports of a positive case attending Coonamble Pharmacy on Castlereagh Highway on Tuesday 23 November while potentially infectious. Staff have since been advised to monitor for symptoms.

It has not been confirmed at this stage where this case at the pharmacy originated from and the local community has been urged not to panic.

According to a Service NSW spokesperson, customers using the COVID Safe check-in on the Service NSW app will receive a COVID-19 case alert if they have attended a venue on the same day as a confirmed COVID-19 case, although they will not immediately need to isolate.

"According to NSW Health advice, residents who receive a COVID-19 case alert only need to monitor for symptoms and get tested if they feel unwell," the spokesperson said.

"NSW Health contact tracers will still contact positive cases and their known close contacts directly and advise if they need to self-isolate."

The WNSWLHD spokesperson said further case interviews are continuing. The Western Plains App will continue to update the community as more information becomes available.
