Council lights up Nyngan walkways Bogan Shire Council Workers installing Solar lights

With safety in mind, Bogan Shire Council have put in place a plan to light up areas that community members favour at night for exercise or just walking to and from home and work.

The idea was put forward and discussions took place as to where and what areas would be the best to commence lighting up the town after dark using solar power.

With the help of grant funding, council workers set to preparing the areas and installing the lights especially as summer sees many people out at night.

Bogan Shire General Manager Derek Francis is happy with the installation of the lights and hopes it makes community members feel safer.

“Bogan Shire Council has been able to expand our network of walking paths over the years with grant funding. The Nymagee Street one in particular has been very popular and it has been great to be able to provide lighting to make walking in the evenings more enjoyable,” he said.

The new lights are being installed along the recreational walkway between Flood Memorial Park and the river as well as the pedestrian bridges over the. Stormwater drains near the entrance to the Nyngan Golf Club and the playground equipment in Moonagee Park.

The community is total behind this incentive with comments such as “they look great’, ‘We appreciate them’, and ‘great initiative’ coming off the back of their installation.

“The safety of our community is paramount,” said Bogan Shire Mayor Glen Neill. “We hope we can continue to install more lighting as funding comes to hand. We are also glad that it makes residents feel more comfortable to get out and exercise and safely walk the town.”
