Day one of lockdown for several shires in Western PlainsWestern NSW Local Health District Chief Executive Scott McLachlan in Dubbo earlier today (12 August) providing an update on COVID-19 in western NSW

Officials from the Western NSW Local Health District (WNSWLHD) are urging the entire region to remain on high alert after identifying three new cases of COVID-19 in the region.

All three cases are from Dubbo, making the total number of active cases in the WNSWLHD to six.

Two of these are also in Dubbo while one is in Walgett, who has been confirmed to have travelled through Bathurst and Dubbo after being released from jail in Bathurst last week.

All three cases were confirmed yesterday and none are currently in hospital.

Several venues of concern have since been identified, further sites and more details may be added as investigations continue.

Anyone who attended these venues on these dates at these times is now considered a close contact and must get tested and isolate for 14 days since you were there, regardless of your result:

  • Tim Koertz Pharmacy Dubbo, 98 Tamworth St, Monday 9 August 1pm to 1.15pm
  • COVID SAFE clinic at Manera Plaza Dubbo, 77 Myall St, Monday 9 August 7.45am to 8.35am

Anyone who was at the following venues on the dates and during the times is urged to get tested and self-isolate until they receive further advice from NSW Health.

  • Don Crosby Veterinary Surgery, 327 Darling Street Dubbo, 7 August 8:57am to 9:45am
  • The Harvest Café, 64 Palmer Street Dubbo, 7 August 9:52am to 10.10am
  • Ashcrofts IGA, 95 Tamworth Street Dubbo, 8 August 12:35 to 12:52pm

Yesterday's positive cases also resulted in the locking down of the Dubbo Regional Council area and further lockdowns of the Walgett, Bogan, Bourke, Brewarrina, Coonamble, Gilgandra, Narromine and Warren shires.

Stay At Home orders - similar to the ones currently affecting Greater Sydney - for Dubbo apply to anyone living in the area or who was there on or after Sunday August 1.

Stay At Home orders in the other eight affected LGAs apply to anyone living in the area or who was there on or after Thursday August 5.

This means people should only leave their homes for essential purposes. Essential purposes can include going to work or education if you cannot do that from home, shopping for essential goods and services or attending essential medical appointments including having a COVID-19 test or vaccination.

Earlier today, the WNSWLHD also received an additional 5000 Pfizer doses from the state government to help in its emergency response in its most vulnerable communities.

To help with the immediate threat to the Walgett community, there will be a pop-up vaccination clinic in Walgett at the local RSL Hall on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The federal government has also announced the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) gave provisional approval to the Moderna vaccine, with supply scheduled to arrive in Australia from September.

More information on the distribution of the Moderna vaccine will be available in the coming days.
