[IMAGE: River McCrossen]Work is expected to begin in next financial year for a $1.26 million upgrade to the Wambianna Road between Warren and Dubbo.
Â
The work will involve widening a part of the road by 2.5 metres, and installing barriers and installing signage indicating curves.
Â
Warren Shire councillors voted on 26 February to fund the project in their 2025/26 budget with money from the Australian Government Black Spot (AGBS) program.
Â
"There's a particular area where there's been a couple of accidents," Warren Mayor Greg Whiteley said.
Â
"The next six months will be the planning phase.
Â
"We encourage people to drive safely."
Â
Wambianna Road recorded five road casualties between 2020 and 2024, according to Transport for NSW's online crash map.
Â
Two incidents were on the same bend roughly 11 kilometres from Warren.
Â
Four involved moderate injuries and one was serious.
Â
The funding includes $100,000 for the design and investigation phase, with the rest set for construction beginning in the 2026/27 financial year.
