A man has died in hospital following a single-vehicle crash involving four other young people near Narrabri over the weekend.
Just before 1.30am on Saturday 9 October, emergency services were called to Maules Creek Road, near Old Gunnedah Road at Tarriaro about 28 kilometres east of Narrabri, following reports a Toyota Landcruiser had hit a wild pig before leaving the road and hitting a tree.
Police say all the occupants of the Toyota – four men and a woman – were trapped inside the vehicle for several hours, before being released by Fire & Rescue NSW.
The driver – a 28-year-old Coonamble man – was airlifted with critical injuries to John Hunter Hospital, where he tragically died some hours later.
The front seat passenger – a 21-year-old Maules Creek man – was taken by road ambulance to Narrabri Hospital, before being airlifted to John Hunter Hospital, where he remains in a critical but stable condition.
The three rear passengers, a 21-year-old Glen Innes woman and two men from Maules Creek – aged 20 and 22 all sustained serious injuries.
The woman was airlifted to St George Hospital while the 22 year old was airlifted to John Hunter hospital. The 21 year old man was taken by road ambulance to Narrabri Hospital.
All remain in hospital where they were reported to be in a stable condition.
Officers from Oxley Police District are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
