Drunk & driving during Stay-at-Home lockdownSome residents are running the gauntlet of increased police patrols with two high-range drink drivers caught overnight.

Police around the Orana Mid Western District have been focused on enforcing the Stay-at-Home orders but on some occasions find more than they expect.

As well as breaching health orders, two drivers in western plains communities were caught during late night patrols on Saturday 28 August and charged with high range PCA.

*Police are reminding the region's residents that 'going for a drive' is not a reasonable excuse to leave home.

Random tests snares high range drunk driver

Police were patrolling Trangie last night as part of Operation Stay at Home when they saw a red Nissan Navara utility with Queensland registration at around 10:20pm.

Police activated warning lights to signal to the driver to pull over and the vehicle travelled for around 200 metres before coming to a stop.

Officers spoke with the 42 year old male driver and told him that he was stopped for random breath testing.

The male produced a New South Wales driver's licence and he told police he had three stubbies of VB.

Police gave the man a road side breath test that returned a positive reading.

He was arrested and taken to the Narromine Police station for the purpose of a Breath analysis. Police observed that the man was stumbling and staggering as he got out of his vehicle and walked to the rear of the Police vehicle.

At the Narromine Police Station the man was given a breath analysis which returned a reading 0.205 - the High Range PCA.

He was charged with High Range PCA and his licence was immediately suspended.

Drunk driver caught at Coonamble

At about 10:45pm last night, police were patrolling Coonamble when they saw a blue Ford Falcon utility driving south on Dubbo Street.

The vehicle drove over the bridge towards Baradine before quickly turning right, driving onto the weir. Police followed for a short time on the weir.

The vehicle continued driving for about a minute whilst police had their lights on, following close behind.

The driver eventually pulled over and was submitted to a breath test that returned a positive result. Police saw numerous beer bottles of Great Northern in the passenger foot well of the vehicle.

The 50 year old male driver was arrested and taken to Coonamble Police Station where he was submitted to a breath analysis that returned a result of 0.186 - the High Range PCA.

Due to the high range reading the male driver's licence was immediately suspended. The male was charged with Drive High Range PCA.
