The Dubbo Cattle Sale that was scheduled for tomorrow (Thursday 2 September) has been cancelled due to a person testing positive for COVID-19, leaving many duty agents and producers wondering what will happen for other sales in the region.
The Dubbo Stock and Station Agents announced a person who was at the Dubbo Regional Livestock Markets had tested positive on the afternoon of Wednesday 1 September as well as the last-minute cancellation of tomorrow's sale which was expected to see more than 4000 head of cattle.
Currently, there is no further information on the new case, including when they were actually at the sale yards and whether they were a duty agent, buyer, or seller.
However, at least one duty agent from Elders confirmed this afternoon they had been advised to get a COVID test and was currently isolating while waiting on their result.
Duty agents from the Coonamble Sale Yards are currently discussing how the new case will impact their upcoming sale on Friday 3 September and are expected to make a decision at some point this evening.
However, licencee-in-Charge and Director of independent livestock and property real estate agency, Halcroft & Bennett - which operates out of Coonamble and Gulargambone - David Thompson said it was still too early to tell, though the revelation could have major implications.
"It has an enormous effect on us as duty agents, the local producers as well as the local supply chain of cattle - people would have been going to and from Dubbo to purchase cattle - everything's up in the air now for what this means for us here in Coonamble," Mr Thompson said.
