Craig Davies is embarking on his eighth year as Mayor of Narromine Shire after being elected unopposed last week on September 13. Councillor Dawn Collins was also elected unopposed as Deputy Mayor of Narromine Shire Council following Council’s ordinary meeting.
Mr Davies said he was delighted to have the support of Councillors to continue in the role.
“As a group of elected members, we have a big responsibility as our community expects strong and effective representation,” said Cr Davies. “I look forward to progressing with the list of projects in Council’s Operational Plan over the next twelve months.”
Cr Collins said it was a privilege and an honour to be re-elected as Deputy Mayor.
Mr Davies said he felt fortunate to have been re-elected a couple of times and never takes the role for granted. As Chairman of the Alliance of Western Councils, he said he feels a responsibility not only to Narromine but the greater Western Plains as well.
"I'm passionate about getting better outcomes for Western NSW," he said. "I'm fortunate in my position that I get to speak at a higher level about the entire region. It there's one thing I've learned, we need to get along with the government in power."
On a more localised level, Mr Davies said there has been a lot of goals achieved in Narromine Shire over the last few years.
"From my perspective, we have largely finished most of the sporting infrastructure projects that were carried out in the district and we need to up the ante as far as roads go."
"We need the focus to be on all roads in the Shire. After three wet years, hundreds of kilometres of roads have needed attention and have been the priority."
Mr Davies said recent funding from the government was very welcome.
"Narromine Shire Council received $4.28 million in recent funding for roads which will go some way to alleviate the burden of wet weather repairs and other maintenance."
Narromine Shire Council’s General Manager, Jane Redden commented on the dedication of all elected members.
“I would like to thank all of the elected members for their commitment to the community and Council over the past 2 years," she said.
The Mayor, deputy and all councillors will hold their positions will be held for a period of 12 months until the next local government elections to be conducted in September 2024.
