Police are investigating following an alleged armed break and enter against an 89-year-old-man in Walgett yesterday.

Police said officers were called to a Wee Waa Street home just after 1am, where they were told two people forced their way in and threatened the man with a baseball bat.

A police spokesperson said they then left in a stolen white Toyota SUV.
Â
They reported no injuries to the 89-year-old.

"About 1.20am, officers patrolling the area located the SUV travelling at speed on Fox Street," the spokesperson said.

"When the driver failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.
Â
"The pursuit continued to along Wimbledon Road and Castlereagh Highway before police lost sight of the vehicle and terminated the pursuit."

The spokesperson said police want speak to two people over the incident.

They are described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance and wearing face coverings and gloves.

The incident follows a separate alleged break-in at a doctor's residence attached to Walgett Aboriginal Medical Service on Thursday 19 June.

Police charged a 14-year-old boy over that incident.
