Innovation and dedication are hallmarks of successful businesses regardless of their location - or the age of the owners.
From a fledgling business in 2018 to currently operating with a team of five, EJS Business Services is the brainchild of 27-year-old Condobolin-based Emily Sinderberry.
Her drive and ambition have led to her small business winning an important industry award earlier in August - the Bookkeeping Award at the 2024 Business xCellence Awards.
Matt Alderton, CEO & Founder of the Bx Business xCellence Awards said EJS Business Services won this award due to its unwavering commitment to innovation, outstanding customer service, and remarkable growth.
“Their dedication to excellence in every aspect of operations has set a benchmark in the industry. This recognition sets them apart as a true industry leader.”
Ms Sinderberry’s business specialises in bespoke bookkeeping and business strategy services for rural, regional, and remote agribusinesses across Australia and is now in its sixth year of operation.
Ms Sinderberry said it the business has grown organically from small beginnings.
“When I started the business, I was working in an accounting firm as an accountant/ bookkeeper,” she said.
“I come from a family farming background, and I wanted to help and support business owners more than I was.
"After three years, I took on the business full time and then brought on staff.
"Things have really grown from there and we do a whole range of things including bookkeeping, business advisory, cash flow management and payroll.”
Ms Sinderberry said the quick growth of her business was due to many factors.
“I found that referrals and networking in online communities is a good way to grow,” she said. “I am part of Facebook groups and have a big online presence. I also have a podcast called The Rural Bookkeeping Podcast.”
In 2023, Emily was honoured with the Profit First Australia Rookie of the Year award, recognising her commitment to innovative financial strategies.
Her credentials include a Bachelor of Agricultural Business Management, an Advanced Diploma in Accounting, and certifications as a Registered BAS Agent, Xero Certified Advisor, and Figured Certified Advisor.
Based at her family’s farm near Condobolin, Ms Sinderberry said working remotely is convenient and has paid off. She now has staff located across the country.
“I have two staff in NSW, one in Queensland and a contractor in South Australia,” she said. “We are a real team.”
Ms Sinderberry said that receiving the Bookkeeping Award at the 2024 Business xCellence Awards represents a significant milestone in their business journey.
“It is a testament to our unwavering commitment to providing top tier bookkeeping and business strategy services tailored specifically for rural businesses,” she said. “Winning the award highlights the dedication and hard work of our entire team.”
“It not only acknowledges our expertise and excellence but also reinforces our mission to provide rural business owners with up-to-date accurate bookkeeping plus the education and support needed to build their dream business and life.”
The award was presented at The Shangri-La Sydney, Australia, in a star-studded event that highlighted global leaders in business, but Ms Sinderberry was unable to attend, but for good reasons!
“Unfortunately, I couldn’t go to the awards as I had just had a baby the week before and our family bull cattle sale was also on,” she said.
“This award motivates us to elevate our services and reach more business owners in need. We appreciate the recognition from the Bx Business xCellence Awards and commend the finalists and winners for their outstanding contributions to the business community."
