A young man has died and another man is in a critical condition following a single vehicle crash near Collarenebri last night.

Just after 10pm yesterday (Saturday 27 December), emergency services were called to a location on the Gwydir Highway about 55km north of Walgett, following reports of a crash.

Officers attached to Central North Police District attended and found a Toyota Utility had rolled, ejecting the occupants.

Police and Rural Fire Service commenced CPR on one occupant, however, he was unable to be revived.

The 24-year-old man died at the scene.

A second man, aged 20, was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to hospital in a critical condition.

A crime scene was established and investigations by the Crash Investigation Unit have commenced.

Gwydir Hwy was closed in both directions between Collarenebri and Boonery Road on the western outskirst of Moree.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area or check Live Traffic NSW .
