After fire fighters extinguished a blaze that caught alight at Coonamble's tip around midday, council workers are keeping a wary eye on it.
Â
Fire & Rescue and Rural Fire Service (RFS) crews received the callout to the waste facility at around 12.30pm, where they fought the blaze while encountering gusts of more than 60-kilmetres per hour.
Â
The fire was away from buildings and there have been no reports of injuries.
Firefighters have left the scene and Coonamble Shire Council has closed the tip.
Â
Coonamble-based RFS District Manager Mark Langham said council crew will now monitor the area over the coming 24-48 hours.
Â
"They're on site with some council machinery and water trucks just putting out any remaining hot spots," Mr Langham said at around 3.15pm today.

He also confirmed that materials in the fire extended to disposable household goods including mattresses. It is believed to have started in a tyre pile.
Â
The wind blew smoke north, and it could be seen clearly from the township about 6.5 kilometres away.
Â
Mr Langham said the fire was a "timely reminder" for people to prepare their properties for the bushfire season, which officially began this month.
Â
"We're urging property owners to look at the forecasted weather conditions on any given day and heed the messaging that's released from the RFS regarding permits and fire danger," he said.
