The Rural Fire Service (RFS) is still working to bring a bush fire on the Narran Lake Road in Cumborah under control.

The fire is burning in thick vegetation northwest of the Corrie Downs property.

"I could see smoke yesterday but none today," one resident from Lightning Ridge said.

RFS crews are being assisted by heavy plant machinery and water-bombing aircraft.

The blaze started on Tuesday due to a suspected lightning strike and has spread over 2,800 hectares as of 4pm on Friday 31 January.

A formal investigation into what started the blaze has yet to occur.

Weather conditions complicated extinguishing the blaze.

"It extended a bit to the north and northeast yesterday due to gusty winds that crews are dealing with. Temperatures are also around 40 degrees " a RFS spokesperson said.

No properties are currently under immediate threat.
