There will be a focus on repairing flood damaged community assets when utilising the $828000 of funding recently received by Narromine Shire Council.

The money from the NSW and Australian Governments Capital Assets Program is specifically to support flood repairs after last year massive damage bill.

Narromine was just one of many Western Plains shires to experience significant rainfall and resulting damage in 2022.

"This funding is unique in that it is specific for flooding repairs," Narromine Shire Mayor, Craig Davies told Western Plains App. "Like many other places, we had widespread damage to roads and infrastructure. This funding will focus on repairs to community infrastructure as opposed to roads,"

Mr Davies said some places like the Narromine Sports Centre are currently still able to be used. In the Sports Centre's case, there is roof and some internal damage that needs attention.

General Manager, Narromine Shire Council’ General Manager, Mrs Jane Redden said repairs will also be carried out at Narromine's Rotary Park with seating and BBQ areas needing refurbishment.

“There will also be refurbishment work done at Mungery Hall, focusing on internal areas, furniture, plumbing, and fencing that were severely impacted by water inundation during most of 2022," she said

Situated 40 kilometres west of Narromine on the banks of the Bogan River, the Mungery Hall is well supported by its local community. Their annual Picnic Race meeting was cancelled for three years in a row; twice for Covid and then due to flooding in 2022. This was one of several community events postponed or cancelled.

"This funding represents a positive step towards rebuilding and enhancing the community's infrastructure and ensuring its continued well-being in the face of future challenges, added Mrs Redden.
