Family Fun Days will be hosted in Gulargambone, Coonamble and Walgett this week, allowing families to meet with important service providers in a family friendly setting.
Hosted by the Murdi Paaki Services, food, drink and entertainment will be icing on the cake to the opportunity to speak to a range of support services available to answer questions and assist with enquiries with the first event to kick off today.
The NSW Energy and Water Ombudsman Janine Young will be visiting the Family Fun Days at each of the venues, after receiving complaints from across the district.
“Some of the common complaints we receive from Gulargambone are about estimated bills and high arrears,” said Ms Young.
"We can discuss these issues and let people know about the rebates they may be entitled to, how to find the best energy deal and how to access energy affordability programs if needed. We'll also provide information about managing bills, saving energy and dealing with providers."
According to the Energy and Water Ombudsman NSW (EWON), estimated bills and high arrears complaints were one of the biggest issues across the 2021/22 financial year, as people received back bills or ongoing estimations during Covid-19.
“Staff from EWON will listen to your concerns, review your bills and work with you to resolve any issues you have - on the spot if possible. We can also refer customers to government agencies and community organisations for support with health, housing, legal or financial problems,” Ms Young said.
Essential Energy and Red Energy will also be present to assist with energy concerns and questions.
Other service providers participating in the Family Fun Days include Mission Australia, Housing Plus, Creative Community Concepts, Dream Time Housing, Community Corrections and the Western Aboriginal Tenants Advice and Advocacy Service.
The Family Fun Days will be held at the following times and locations:
