Gilgandra residents are being urged to save water after one of the main water pumps at the town's Water Treatment Plant failed due to damage on 24 January.
The town now relies on a single pump to transfer water between the plant and the reservoirs used by residents.
A new pump, dispatched from Adelaide on 21 February, is expected to be installed within the next two weeks.
There are so far no water restrictions in place, but the shire's General Manager David Neeves said they are assessing the need for them daily.
“The only pump is not keeping up with demand," Mr Neeves said.
"Normally, the reservoirs will hold 23 metres (height) of water but the reservoirs are currently at 15 metres and gradually dropping. Many residents will be starting to see the impacts on their water pressure.
"With a week of hot temperatures forecast, GSC is very concerned that without a concerted effort by all, water levels will continue to decrease.”

The town is expecting maximum temperatures of up to 39 degrees this week, according to the Bureau of Metrology.
A Gilgandra Shire spokesperson said it isn't known if a specific incident caused the failure, although wear and tear, and the pump's old age, exacerbated damage.
The damaged pump, specially built for the plant, was sent to Newcastle for repairs and is being rebuilt.
"There are a lot of hot days between then and now, so we are appealing to the community to reduce their water consumption," Mr Neeves said.
A council spokesperson said staff will factor consumption levels when making decisions on water restrictions.
Ernie Knight, McGrane Oval, Hunter Park, Cooee Lodge and Retirement Village have their own alternate bore water supply. Last week, the town consumed an average of two megalitres a day.
The spokesperson said the plant was constructed in 1972 and has had pumps replaced "multiple times" over its lifetime.
They said change-outs are not unexpected and usually happen as part of the council's replacement program.
