Gilgandra expands industrial estate to boost business and jobs

Gilgandra is opening its doors to new opportunities, with 11 development-ready industrial lots in the recently completed Stage Two of the Gilgandra Industrial Estate already attracting strong interest.

Situated on Naden and Collison Drive, the lots form part of Gilgandra Shire Council’s Towards 5000 vision, a long-term plan to grow the local population, create jobs, and encourage investment in the region.

With essential services already in place, the land provides an immediate platform for manufacturers, trades, logistics, and other enterprises seeking to establish or expand in a well-connected regional centre.

Mayor Doug Batten said the release was an important milestone in preparing for Gilgandra’s future.

“The Gilgandra Region is growing, and this industrial release is future-proofing that growth, through backing local business, attracting new industry, and creating new opportunities for employment and investment,” Cr Batten said.

Council says the expansion of the industrial estate is both timely and strategic.

A spokesperson told Western Plains App that demand for suitable land has been strong, with limited availability across the shire.

Gilgandra Shire Council Mayor, Doug Batten said new industrial lots will help the region prepare for future economic growth.

“There is currently no Council-owned industrial land outside of Stage Two of the Gilgandra Industrial Estate, and very limited privately-owned industrial lots.

"The Towards 5000 vision supports a region growing towards a population of 5000, and this release ensures we have the right infrastructure to support that,” the spokesperson said.

Stage Two of the estate incorporates a 12-lot subdivision, with 11 sites now available for purchase through local real estate agents.

Ranging in size from 2731 square metres to 4296 square metres, the blocks provide flexibility for a variety of businesses.

The project also positions Gilgandra to take advantage of major opportunities on the horizon.

“The subdivision aligns with Council’s strategy to have serviced industrial land ready to attract new industries and support the growth of existing businesses,” the spokesperson said.

“It also ensures we are prepared for future growth linked to Inland Rail and renewable energy projects.”

Alongside the subdivision, Council has advanced a planning proposal to rezone land on Gilgandra’s western side for industrial use.

The rezoning would create scope for larger-scale industrial development, catering for businesses requiring greater space and resources.

Mayor Batten said both the current land release and the rezoning proposal reflect Council’s commitment to growing the local economy and creating jobs for residents.

“This isn’t just about responding to growth,” he said.

“It’s about planning ahead so that when businesses are ready to invest, Gilgandra is ready to welcome them.”

Council believes the release will not only help local businesses expand but also attract new operators who recognise the benefits of setting up in a proactive, forward-looking regional hub.
