Dalgarno Street in Coonabarabran will burst into life on Saturday 20 September, when Warrumbungle Bloomfest returns with an evening of colour, creativity, food and music under the region’s world-famous dark skies.
Now in its second year, the free, family-friendly festival has secured its future for the next three years thanks to $350,000 in funding through the NSW Government’s Open Streets Program 2025–2028, led by Transport for NSW.
The Open Streets Program supports councils across the state to temporarily close streets and transform them into vibrant, people-friendly spaces.
Its aim is to boost community connection, encourage economic activity, and create welcoming places for locals and visitors alike.
Mayor of Warrumbungle Shire Council, Councillor Kathryn Rindfleish, said the support meant Bloomfest could build on the momentum of its inaugural year in 2024.
“We’re incredibly grateful to the NSW Government for supporting Warrumbungle Bloomfest," she said.
"Building on the success of last year’s spring celebration, this year’s event will feature exciting new elements and ongoing support from local businesses to encourage night-time vibrancy."
The 2024 debut attracted hundreds of locals and visitors, who enjoyed illuminated art, food stalls, live performances, workshops and markets.
This year promises even more, with a program that celebrates the creativity of the community and the natural beauty of the region.
Running from 3pm until 9pm, the festival will see Dalgarno Street transformed into a pedestrian-friendly hub of entertainment and activity.
The afternoon begins with the Coonabarabran Celtic Club Pipes and Drums, setting the atmosphere with traditional music and energy.
They will be followed by Musta Dance Line Dancing, encouraging festival-goers to join in the fun, while children’s activities including songs, games, drawing and dancing will keep younger visitors entertained.
Phat Brass will be on hand to entertain crowds at the second Warrumbungle Bloomfest.
As the evening progresses, live music will take centre stage.
The line-up includes pop-hippie-cowgirl singer-songwriter Tilly Poole, who will perform three sets, high-energy roaming ensemble Phat Brass with their blend of pop, jazz, electronic and rock, and local
favourites Where’s Dave, who will deliver a mix of party and pub rock classics from the 1970s through to today.
Workshops and creative activities will run throughout the afternoon and evening, with all sessions free to join.
Visitors can try badge-making, create posies with local florists, or enjoy face painting, bubble play and interactive art projects such as a giant 3D chalk mural by local artist Zac Craig.
Other highlights include floral tattoos and painting workshops, ensuring there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Stargazing will also feature, with Donna the Astronomer sharing the wonders of the Dark Sky Park that surrounds the Warrumbungle region.
As dusk falls, Dalgarno Street will become a luminous canvas.
A spectacular projection light show will transform buildings into glowing artworks, while SPACE gallery will contribute window projections to add even more colour to the evening.
A balloon arch photo wall and interactive art installations will provide memorable backdrops for festival-goers.
Food and market stalls will line the street, showcasing both local flavours and handmade goods.
Festival-goers can enjoy tacos, Thai stir-fry, pulled pork rolls, BBQ steak and sausages, donuts, gelato, cookies, coffee and more, provided by local cafés, hotels and community groups.
Stalls will also feature handmade jewellery, plants, books, art and local produce, offering the chance to take home a piece of the Warrumbungle region.
Cr Rindfleish said Bloomfest had quickly become a highlight on the regional events calendar.
“Bloomfest is where our region shines," she said.
"We bring together the wildflowers of spring, the wonder of the dark skies, and the creativity of our community in one unforgettable evening.
"Best of all, it’s a completely free event, so everyone can come and enjoy the entertainment, workshops, and activities.”
Bloomfest is alcohol-free and smoke-free, ensuring a welcoming and inclusive environment for all.
