Australia Day in Gulargambone is set to be one to remember, with many activities taking place during the day as well as a visit from a special guest.
The day will start with an 8am breakfast at Lions Club Park for the Australia Day Awards ceremony. The official actvities will be followed by live entertainment with Stuart Dougan at 3pm and social bowls from 4pm at the local Gulargambone Bowling Club.
Daphne Earsman, Gulargambone Australia Day Organiser said Australia Day celebrations are always a popular event within the Gulargambone community.
"There are a lot of events taking place in Gulargambone on Australia Day. As well as the award ceremony, live entertainment and social bowls, we also have Sam Taylor with his horse and buggy doing tours of the murals and installations - it is always very popular," Ms Earsman said.
Joining the Gulargambone community this year is Australia Day Ambassador Christine Mastello.
Christine is well- known as the founder and CEO of the Community Hair Project and Southlake's Incorporated.
"I left my job at the time and started a food bank out of my own savings. I fell in love with making a difference to people's lives within the community," Ms Mastello said.
"Southlake's Incorporated is now the largest foodbank charity in Australia. I now run two walk- in food banks with three home delivery areas. Southlake's hands out hundreds of hampers, pre- cooked meals and essentials every week including clothing".
"I also founded the Community Hair Project, which is now nationwide. It is something I hold very close to my heart and the program has recently passed its 75,000 free haircut at the end of 2022," she said.

Ms Mastello is excited to involve herself within the community on Australia Day.
"I am so excited to be travelling out to Gulargambone. I told the Australia Day organisers that I would be happy to travel to the outback.
"When I found out I was travelling to Gulargambone I was ecstatic! I googled the town and fell in love with it straight away. There are so many beautiful places within the community including the river, the artworks and murals- it all looks amazing," she said.
Ms Mastello is ready to dig her toes into the Gulargambone soil.
"As a city girl, I am excited to see what living out west is truly all about. I will be in Gulargambone for two full days. I hope to find out what resources the community needs and get them out there," she said.
"I am looking forward to meeting everybody. I will find it interesting to see just how different living out west is in comparison to the city. We should all be together on Australia Day. I get told that the biggest thing with little towns is that people in the city do not see them. I am here to see you all and hopefully bring the country and city together," Ms Mastello said.
