Community members in Brewarrina have been invited to contribute to what the future of the Four Mile Reserve will look like as the transformation of the site nears its final stages.

The Four Mile is a camping reserve along the Barwon River, located a few minutes out of Brewarrina township along the Coolabah and Carinda Road

Brewarrina Shire Council Manager David Kirby said it is vital for the community to have a say in a project from which everyone will benefit.

"We know how important this place is for the community whether it's for fishing, camping, boating or just generally enjoying the outdoors and our river," Brewarrina Shire Council General Manager David Kirby said.

The design team said they have drawn inspiration as well from the local landscape and natural resources for the conceptualisation of the camping site.

Initial plans for the design were released on 23 September and show a promising future for the popular campgrounds.

"We are lucky to have some beautiful natural resources in the region, including the deep colour natural rocks and granite in our quarry," Mr Kirby said.

Several new facilities a car and van parking area, road upgrades, and a shade and BBQ area are all already part of the plans as part of the $1.5 million makeover.

"Careful thought, considerate planning, and community input has gone into every aspect of the conceptual planning for Four Mile architects and landscapers," Mr Kirby said.

The Brewarrina Local Aboriginal Land Council (LALC) was also present during the consultations.

"We went out to the reserve with the architects, who were respectful and helpful. I think it's going to be an amazing spot," acting CEO of the Brewarrina LALC Urayne Warraweena said.

"Four Mile is not only extremely popular for camping and recreation for the community and visitors, it is also a special place for First Nations people," Mr Kirby said.

"Dreaming stories tell us about the Rainbow Serpent that travelled across the landscape creating the river and then came to rest at the bend in the river where the water reaches its deepest depth, what is known today as Four Mile."

Ms Warraweena said the LALC also made suggestions such as moving the parking away from the river to avoid overcrowding and including a garden area.

"We said we would love to have a sheltered space where we can sit and a dance circle for Aboriginal dancing," she said.

"You could decorate the place and support local Aboriginal artists by putting up their art because most tourists that come out to Aboriginal outback areas are looking for the culture.

"I'm really excited. I can't wait to see it."

The survey where community members can share their feedback is open until 11 October.

The Four Mile Transformation is set to be completed in the next half year.
