It has been an emotional 48 hours in Condobolin as many homes along the Lachlan river fill with floodwater.
For Darryl and Melissa Nesbitt on the Kiacatoo road, it's a nightmare come to life.
Images of floodwater pouring into their loungeroom after their levee bank collapsed overnight are scenes all too familiar for their neighbours, Paul and Leanne Yeomans.
"On Saturday morning it went over the levee bank... there's about six or eight inches through the house now," said Paul.
Luckily, the Yeoman's family had time to elevate furniture and move stock off the property, leaving just their house and sheds to be inundated.
"It's just a waiting game name now," said Paul.
"We'll just wait and see what the rest of this water does... the dam is supposedly letting out 200,000 megalitres a day so who knows what could happen – there could be a lot more damage than what there already is."
The images showcase a disaster that is still awaiting others further along the river.
Just up the river, Lachlan and Susannah Ford have a boat parked at their front door.
"It's pretty ordinary really...It's not above the floorboards yet but it's probably an inch off and I'm hoping it won't get much higher, but it probably will," said Lachlan.
His wife, Susannah and four girls have been staying in town for the past few weeks so the girls can go to school, but Lachlan fears they will all have to find somewhere to stay for a while longer yet.
The water level at the railway crossing near their house acts as a guide for the family.
"If the water hasn't gone over the railway line then I'm expecting it to get up into the house, but it is what it is, I guess," he said.
On the other side of town, the small community of Derriwong east of Condobolin have been issued with an 'evacuate now' warning, after water broke through the levy bank and began spilling across the railway line.
The increased floodwater comes after the Lachlan river at Condobolin Bridge peaked at 7.27 metres on Saturday, slightly lower than the June 1952 flood level (7.37 metres), and over 120mm of rain fell in many places across the Lachlan Shire.
The Bureau of Meteorology advises that the river level is currently at 7.24 metres and steady, with major flooding, while renewed rises are possible tomorrow with the recent rainfall.
Floodwaters have now caused all roads to the west and south of Condobolin to close, while flash flooding in the Parkes Shire has also meant the Henry Parkes Way (Parkes to Condobolin) has been closed to all traffic at Yarrabandai.
Over the last 24hours the NSW SES has responded to more than 855 requests for assistance and 204 flood rescues, a number of which were in Condobolin.
The SES advise that if you come across flood affected roads, make the safe decision, turn around and find an alternate route.
They are asking everyone to please obey all signs about road closures and instructions from emergency services.
Condobolin SES responded to a flood rescue to the south of Condobolin at Murie Crossing. A motor home had been driven through swift moving flood water and was swept off the road.
Thanks to the quick actions of a local farmer with a tractor, the people were extricated from the vehicle and taken to safety. With water lapping at the windscreen and the vehicle only being held onto the remnants of the road by a road barrier, these people are lucky to be alive. This vehicle has been left in the Murie as it is too dangerous to recover the vehicle. SOURCE: Condobolin SES
While Condobolin, like many townships along the Lachlan river catchment prepare for even more damage to come, the community have been rallying, and impacted locals have been holding their heads just above water.
"It definitely can get worse," said Lachlan Ford. "I made the mistake in the middle of the drought by saying that it can’t get much worse and it did... but we'll survive."
"We'll persevere with it," said Paul Yeomans. "It's all you can do."
"I'd rather this than a drought!" Said Lachlan.
