A paramedic has been praised for staying with a hiker who had been injured in an isolated area of Warrumbungle National Park.
Around 4.30 pm on Wednesday 1 October, a Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked by the NSW Ambulance Aeromedical Control Centre to a hiker who had suffered a leg injury on a remote track in the Warrumbungle National Park, west of Coonabarabran.
The NSW Ambulance critical care paramedic from the helicopter’s critical care medical team was winched into the scene and treated a patient in their 50s for an ankle injury.
''Following further assessment, the team decided that the paramedic would remain with the patient overnight, with extraction planned for the following morning," an Ambulance NSW spokesperson said.
A Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked by the NSW Ambulance Aeromedical Control Centre to return to the scene and arrived around 7.30 am on Thursday 2 October.
The patient received further treatment and was stabilised before being winched into the aircraft and airlifted to Dubbo Base Hospital.
