The Labor Party has announced Nathan Fell as their candidate for the Parkes electorate in the 2025 election.

Mr Fell has lived in Broken Hill for the past 22 years, after moving from Katoomba at the age of nine.

Despite his young age 29-year-old Mr Fell says he's ready for the role.

"I've got plenty of life experience even if I don't have the decades under my belt that other candidates have.

"We need younger people to get into politics and start making this area more attractive for young people."

He's spent most of his life working in the mining industry which Mr Fell said allows him to understand the impact federal government policy has on workers.

"We want to make sure our jobs are well paid, safe, and consistent. And we don't want to worry about downturns and losing jobs. I think worker's rights are a massive thing for people."

Another of the biggest challenges he sees for the Parkes electorate is access to higher education and healthcare.

"It's really hard for us to get doctors and specialists to stay in these regional centres.

"Nine out of ten times, they'll fly out of major cities and if Rex goes under that's going to be a massive blow to many communities out here," Mr Fell said.

From now until the election, Mr Fell plans on talking to as many people as possible to hear what's important to them.

He will be touring the electorate starting next Friday.Â
