Just five new cases detected in the western area yesterdayThere are 56 people in the western plains area still in covid care, although today's discharges and drop in new cases gives hope for health services to cope as restrictions ease.

There were just five new cases of covid recorded in the Western Local Health District yesterday, and although three of these were in Walgett, none of the Walgett cases were active in the community while infectious.

The other two cases were in Orange and Mudgee. In the Western LHD, four people were admitted to hospital and one person is in intensive care.

Twenty one people were discharged from the Covid Care in the Community program yesterday.

Across the state, the number of new cases was 301, down from 319 the previous day.

Sadly, ten people died in the 24 hours to 8pm Saturday, a reminder of the ongoing need to act safely to reduce the spread and severity of the disease.
