Lachlan Shire opens new tourism projectsMayor of Lachlan Shire Council, Paul Phillips, and Deputy Mayor, John Medcalf, cut the ribbon to officially open the Lake Cargelligo Tourism Activation Precinct last weekend.

It's open!

During last weekend's the Festival of the Lakes, Mayor of Lachlan Shire Council, Paul Phillips, and Deputy Mayor, John Medcalf, officially opened the Lake Cargelligo Tourism Activation Precinct with a ribbon cutting ceremony in front of an appreciative local crowd.

The project has been a long time coming, impacted by several hurdles including labour and material shortages following the Covid-19 pandemic, along with record floods in 2022.

The project incorporated the upgrade of the Foster Street shopping precinct, with replacement of water mains and stormwater drainage, installation of a roundabout and kerb blisters, upgrade of footpaths and street furniture and the planting of trees. The installation of new facilities including pedestrian refuges, pram ramps and a round-a-bout aims to increase the safety of all who use the Foster Street area.

Lachlan Shire Council said they "appreciate the community’s patience while work was underway and look forward to residents enjoying the revitalised tourism and shopping precinct."

Festivities of the day also included the unveiling of a new mural in Foster Street by Mayor Phillips and Cr Judith Bartholomew.

It’s an exciting time for Lachlan Shire, with a new Visitor Information Centre also taking shape at Condobolin, within the “Utes in the Paddock” tourism precinct.

As the development moves to the next phase, Council is gearing up to launch a volunteer Tourism Ambassador Program.

Council’s Director Environment, Tourism, and Economic Development Jon Shillito said, “We are looking for passionate locals who enjoy meeting and talking to people and have a few hours to spare, to join our new team as volunteer Tourism Ambassadors.

“As an Ambassador you will be willing to share your love of the shire with our visitors, be comfortable in meeting and greeting people, and be confident in answering phone calls and undertaking duties such as replenishing brochure racks, restocking merchandise, and assisting with event preparation," Ms Shillito said. "We will provide training and regular familiarisation tours."

If working with a vibrant and dedicated team in the new architecturally designed, air-conditioned, fully accessible centre sounds like something you may enjoy, get in touch with Lachlan Shire Council. The centre will operate 7 days per week early November 2023.
