Lockdown lifted in Western NSW region but ongoing testing encouragedThe Central-West NSW Local Government Areas of Orange, Blayney and Cabonne will exit a seven day lockdown from midnight tonight after no further identified positive cases of COVID-19 in these communities, though officials say the risk of future outbreaks remains present.

Three Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the Western NSW Local Health district (WNSWLHD) will come out of lockdown from 12:00 midnight tonight Tuesday 27 July, though officials are warning people across Central West NSW to remain vigilant for signs of COVID-19.

The week-long Stay At Home orders in the Orange, Blayney and Cabonne LGAs were implemented on Wednesday 21 July after a positive case was confirmed to have been active in these communities while infectious.

This positive case was confined to their home in Cabonne and almost 15,000 residents came forward to be tested across those regions - and Bathurst, Dubbo, Parkes and Forbes - between then and Monday 26 July.

WNSWLHD Chief Executive Scott McLachlan said during this period, it was incredibly fortunate that no new cases were detected in the district but it was important that testing numbers remained high in the coming weeks.

"We must thank the community for such an impressive response, but now is not the time to become complacent," Mr McLachlan said.

"At all times, and certainly when there’s been a case recorded locally, widespread testing gives us the best chance possible to see if there has been any spread of COVID-19 in the community.

"It’s a key measure in determining any threat to our local communities and, in the situation where parts of our District have tighter restrictions imposed, is crucial to informing decisions about when it might be safe to lift those."

According to Mr McLachlan, the WNSWLHD's pop-up testing sites at Orange, Bathurst, Parkes, Molong and Blayney will remain open today.

From Wednesday onward, however, testing at Molong, Blayney and Parkes will revert to being conducted by appointment at those areas’ Hospitals or Multi-Purpose Services.

Mr McLachlan said the WNSWLHD had learned a lot about large volume testing as a result of the recent testing numbers which was likely to be implemented there and further west in the coming months to ensure maximum safety for the region.

With the Stay At Home orders being lifted tomorrow, the Orange, Blayney and Cabonne LGAs will revert back to the same Public Health Order restrictions in place across the rest of regional NSW.
