A man has been airlifted to hospital from a rural property in the Cobar shire following an on-farm accident yesterday (8 June) morning.

Shortly before 10:45am, NSW Ambulance paramedics were called to a rural property at Euabalong, a town located near the border between the Cobar and Lachlan shires, in response to reports a man had fallen and was trapped under machinery.

Three paramedic road crews and the Toll Ambulance Rescue Helicopter, with a specialist critical care doctor and a critical care paramedic on board, were dispatched to the scene.

On arrival, paramedics found a male patient, believed to be in his 40s, who had been trapped against a front end loader.

The patient was treated for abdominal injuries and stabilised for transport to Lake Cargelligo Airport. He was then airlifted to The Canberra Hospital in a critical condition.

NSW Ambulance spokesperson Inspector Peter Rowlands said it had been a carefully managed job by paramedics on the scene.

“When patients are trapped by compression it's crucial to manage crush injuries carefully,” Inspector Rowlands said.

“Paramedics on scene worked with the critical care doctor and the critical care paramedic to stabilise a dangerous condition and manage the patient’s pain.

“Thanks to the work of first responders, we were able to get this patient to hospital care as soon as possible.”
