Man arrested after 50,000 rounds allegedly found

Police arrested a man in Trangie yesterday after a search allegedly found unregistered firearms and over 50,000 rounds of ammunition without a permit.

Officers attended a home on Dandaloo Road on Wednesday 12 March at about 6pm in relation to a concern for welfare.

Police say they spoke to the 57-year-old male owner and located "firearm-related items."

"A crime scene warrant was obtained and with the assistance of specialist police a search was conducted yesterday (Thursday 13 March 2025) that allegedly located over 50,000 rounds of ammunition, 30kg of gun powder and multiple firearm parts including barrels and trigger assemblies," a police spokesperson said.

"It will also be alleged the man was the holder of a suspended firearms licence."

Officers arrested the man on site.

He was taken to Dubbo Police Station and charged with six offences:

  • Possess unregistered firearm-not pistol/prohibited firearm (two counts)
  • Acquire firearm part without authority to do so (two counts)
  • Possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority
  • Store explosive precursors without licence.

He was refused bail to appear at Dubbo Local Court on the same day that he was taken into custody and will appear Narromine Local Court on Thursday 10 April 2025.

Police say investigations continue.
