Men charged following pursuit in state's north westTwo men will face court in Bourke today charged with a range of offences following a police pursuit earlier this week.

Two men will face court today (Wednesday 4 May) charged with a range of traffic, assault and property-related offences in the state’s north west.


About 5.10pm last Monday (2 May 2022), officers attached to Central North Police District were patrolling the Kamilaroi Highway between Brewarrina and Walgett, where they attempted to stop a sedan.


When the driver allegedly failed to stop a pursuit was initiated, which was terminated a short time later due to safety concerns. Police later found the vehicle on Jobs Gate Road, Weilmoringle.



Two men were seen running into nearby bushland, while two female passengers were arrested and taken to Brewarrina Police Station. They were later released pending further enquiries.


Following further inquiries, about 9.30am yesterday (Tuesday 3 May 2022), police were near the intersection of Jobs Gate Road and East Culgoa Road, Weilmoringle, when two men appeared from a table drain.


Police intervened when the men allegedly attempted to take and drive a vehicle belonging to a local farmer; following a short struggle the men ran into nearby bushland.


A short time later, they were arrested and taken to Brewarrina Police Station.


A 31-year-old man was charged with:

  • Assault with intent to rob in company
  • Assault occasioning actual bodily harm
  • Common assault (two counts)
  • Police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly
  • Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous
  • Never licensed person drive vehicle on road
  • Commit an act of aggravated cruelty upon an animal, and,
  • Enter enclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse.


Police also executed four outstanding arrest warrants for property, robbery, stealing, affray and traffic-related offences.


A 29-year-old man was charged with:

  • Use offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence
  • Enter enclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse
  • Contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO
  • Assault with intent to rob in company
  • Common assault (two counts)
  • Assault occasioning actual bodily harm
  • Take and drive conveyance without consent of owner
  • Police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously
  • Class A motor vehicle exceed speed > 45 km/h
  • Never-licensed person drive vehicle on road
  • Intentionally throw object at vehicle/vessel risk safety
  • Throw missile at police officer executing duty, and,
  • Enter enclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse.


The two men were refused bail and will appear at Bourke Local Court today.
